Cracked camera lens?
Often it’s
just the glass.

That little glass cover over your rear camera is its own part — and when it cracks, the camera underneath is usually still fine. Nine times out of ten we can swap just the lens glass, cheap, while you wait. But not always. Sometimes it’s the camera module, and sometimes the lens is fused to the back glass. Here’s how to tell — and we’ll be straight with you either way.

LENS GLASS FROM $49 · SAME DAY
IT’S TWO DIFFERENT REPAIRS

The cracked bit you can see isn’t always the broken bit.

There are two separate parts back there. The lens glass is the thin cover sitting over each camera — cosmetic, cheap, quick to swap. The camera module is the actual camera behind it: the sensor, the lens stack, the autofocus. One’s a $49 job. The other isn’t.

Ninety per cent of ‘cracked camera’ jobs that walk in are just the glass, with a perfectly good camera underneath. Here’s the 30-second test to know which one you’re dealing with before you pay for anything.

The lens glass

The little glass cover over the camera. When it cracks, the camera itself usually still shoots fine — this is the cheap, cosmetic fix. Most cracked-camera jobs are just this.

The camera module

The actual camera inside — sensor, lens stack, autofocus. If photos come out blurry, black, spotty or won’t focus, the module’s the problem. Costs more, takes longer.

The 30-second test

Open your camera app and look at the preview. Photos still sharp but the glass is cracked? It’s the glass. Preview blurry, spotty or black? That’s the module talking.

Why it matters

Because the glass fix is a fraction of the module price. Plenty of shops quote the whole module for a cracked cover. We won’t — if it’s just the glass, you pay for just the glass.

WHICH REPAIR IS YOURS

Three repairs. One’s probably all you need.

Most cracked lenses are Path A — the cheap one. We’ll only move you up to B or C if the phone actually needs it.

RECOMMENDED FOR MOST CRACKS
PATH A · LENS GLASS

Just the lens glass

Cracked cover · camera still shoots clean
GLASS-ONLY · SAME DAY

The glass is cracked but your photos still come out sharp. We lift off the broken lens cover and fit a fresh one — camera untouched. Quick, cheap, done while you wait.

WHAT WE FIT

A new lens cover, camera left alone.

Clear the broken glass, clean the seat, bond a new lens cover over your existing camera. Original glass on request where we can get it.

THE HONEST RISKS

Small chance of dust getting in while it’s open. Aftermarket glass can be a hair less clear than factory optical glass. And on some phones the lens is bonded to the back panel — that’s a Path C job, not this one.

MODULE SWAP

If the preview’s blurry, black, full of spots or won’t focus — or the camera took a real knock — new glass won’t fix it. The camera itself needs replacing.

WHAT WE DO

Swap the whole module.

Out with the dead camera, in with a new one, calibrated and tested. Original-first parts — genuine where we can source it, quality aftermarket where we can’t, and we tell you which.

BACK-GLASS JOB

On some phones the camera glass isn’t a separate cover — it’s moulded into the whole rear glass panel. There’s no lens-only part to fit, so fixing the lens means replacing the back glass.

WHAT IT MEANS

It’s a back-glass repair.

Same quality either way — it just moves the job over to our back-glass process and pricing. We’ll tell you on the spot if your model’s built this way.

PATH A · JUST THE LENS GLASS

Crack in the cover, camera good as ever.

The lens glass is a sacrificial cover — it’s there to take the hit so the camera doesn’t. When it shatters, the camera behind it is almost always untouched. We lift the broken glass, clean the seat, and bond a fresh cover in its place. Fifteen minutes of work, thirty to forty-five with the curing.

You get rid of the star-burst flares in bright light, the haze on your photos, and the sharp edge under your finger — without paying for a camera you didn’t need.

⚠ WHEN WE WON’T DO LENS-ONLY

If the module’s already letting in dust or moisture, or the sensor itself is cracked, a new cover just traps the problem. We won’t take your money for a fix that won’t hold — we’ll tell you it’s a module job and quote that instead.

PATH B · FULL CAMERA MODULE

When new glass won’t cut it, we swap the camera.

Blur that a new cover won’t fix, black frames, coloured spots, autofocus that hunts and never locks — that’s the module, not the glass. Same story if the camera copped a hard, direct knock and the internals shifted. We replace the whole unit, calibrate it, and shoot test frames against your other lenses before you leave.

Parts are original-first: we fit genuine where we can get it for your model, quality aftermarket where genuine isn’t available — and we always tell you which one is going in and what it costs.

⚠ HEADS UP — PRICE IS PER MODEL

Module prices swing a lot between models, and between the wide, ultra-wide and tele cameras. From around $89, but the only honest number is the one for your exact phone. Grab a 60-second quote and we’ll give it to you straight.

PATH C · FUSED TO THE BACK GLASS

Sometimes the lens is the back of the phone.

On a growing list of phones — certain Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and other newer models — there’s no separate lens cover to buy. The camera glass is moulded straight into the single sheet of rear glass. Crack the lens and you’ve technically cracked the back panel.

That’s not us upselling — it’s how the phone’s built. The fix is a proper back-glass replacement, which sorts the lens and any other rear cracks in one go. We’ll check your model in seconds and point you the right way.

PATH D · NOT SURE YET

Can’t tell glass from camera? We’ll look for free.

You don’t need to diagnose it yourself. Bring the phone in, or send a photo and tell us the model, and we’ll work out whether it’s a $49 glass swap, a module job, or a fused back-glass panel — before you agree to anything.

No-fix-no-fee, always. If we can’t sort it, you don’t pay. And we’ll never quote you a module when the glass is all that’s cracked.

OUR PROMISE

You’ll know exactly what’s wrong and what it costs before we touch a screwdriver.

HOW WE DIAGNOSE IT
  1. 01

    Open the camera app

First thing we check: does the preview look sharp, or blurry, spotty and dark?

  2. 02

    Sharp preview? It’s the glass

Camera’s fine, only the cover’s cracked. Straight to the cheap lens-glass fix.

  3. 03

    Bad preview? It’s the module

Blur, spots or black that new glass won’t fix — the camera itself needs replacing.

  4. 04

We check the build & quote

Confirm whether your model’s lens is separate or fused, then give you the exact price.

EVERY LENS REPAIR

Sealed back up with proper adhesive.

A lens cover isn’t just dropped in — it’s bonded around the rim with the right adhesive so dust and moisture stay out. We reseal every repair the way the phone was sealed at the factory: same bead, same seat, cured properly before it goes back in your pocket.

Honest caveat: any camera or lens repair — ours or anyone’s — is a manual reseal. We seal it well, but we can’t certify the phone’s original IP water-resistance rating comes back. Splash-safe, yes; rated-waterproof on paper, no. We’ll always say so upfront.

CAMERA QUESTIONS

Straight answers.

Does a cracked lens actually ruin my photos?

It can. Cracks scatter light, so you’ll usually see flares, haze or a milky patch in your shots — worst in bright sun or at night around streetlights and headlights. In dim, even light you might not notice much at all. Either way, a fresh cover clears it up if the camera underneath is fine.

Can I just leave it cracked?

You can for a while, but it tends to get worse. A cracked cover lets dust and moisture creep in toward the camera, and what starts as a cosmetic flare can turn into spots on every photo or a foggy lens. Cheaper to swap the glass now than the whole module later.

Is aftermarket lens glass any good?

For most people, yes — good aftermarket lens glass is clear and does the job at a fraction of the cost. If you’re fussy about edge-to-edge sharpness or you shoot a lot, we can get genuine or original-grade glass for many models on request. We’ll tell you what’s available and let you choose.

Do you reseal it for water resistance?

We reseal every lens repair with proper adhesive so dust and splashes stay out — sealed the way it left the factory. What we can’t do is certify the original IP water-resistance rating still holds. Any manual reseal, by anyone, voids that on paper. Splash-safe yes, submarine no, and we’ll always be upfront about it.

What’s the warranty?

Minimum 90 days on parts and labour, every repair. If the new glass or module plays up within that window and it’s on us, we’ll sort it out. And it’s no-fix-no-fee throughout — if we can’t fix it, you don’t pay.
